Historic Cleveland Park Whole House Remodel and Expansion
CHALLENGE
Since purchasing the property several years before, the homeowners had been making minor upgrades and repairs to this house that was last updated in the 1990s. But they really wanted to overhaul the house in one go. Some of their goals: to open up the entryway to make their home more inviting; to expand all three stories at the rear of the house, to create a two-car garage on the basement level, an open plan kitchen/dining/great room on the first floor, and an expansive master bedroom and bathroom on the second floor; and to update all electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
APPROACH
The historic preservation review process entailed several rounds of revising the design and drawings before permits were granted. Noël Design Build generated multiple designs in consultation with the homeowners and the historic review board in order to produce plans that satisfied everyone.
RESULTS
The historic structure is now a spectacular home that is welcoming and spacious. The public rooms are perfect for entertaining, and all three bedrooms, especially the master suite, are relaxing oases.
